Protools – No sound through Genelecs – Make sure that the outputs for each of the channels as well as the master fader in protools is set to “GenelecFront”. Often times, the settings get shuffled around. In the process, the default outputs for newly made tracks are sometimes set to “bus 1-2” or others.
Protools – Cannot Access pre-amps and main-outs – If you do not hear any sound and the inputs and outputs of your channels are greyed-out then the computer is having trouble communicating with the ProTools hardware.
More specifically, The Lynx Auroras and the Appogee converters on the bottom left side of the hardware rack inside the studio. To remedy this situation, check the protools setting: Setup -> Playback EngineAnd make sure that it is set to HD TDM.
If HD TDM is not present within the drop down menu, it means that Protools was turned on without the converters having a chance to first communicate with the computer. Temporarily quit protools (and every other program using audio), then restart the Auroras and the Appoges. Now start protools and head back over to the Playback Engine, you should now see HD TDM. Change to it and it’ll prompt a restart of Protools.
C24 – communication problems – If the C24 interface is getting the data from protools (the faders are adjusted to your levels set on your computer and such), however protools does not receive data from the C24 (faders jerking to the computer-set levels and not updating to protools). The C24 must be restarted. Temporarily turn off Protools and the speakers (a switch on the sub powers them). Then restart the C24 by the switch on it’s power supply. It is below the desk. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE UNDER THE DESK! Restart the speakers and then protools. You should be able to access your channels through the C24 controller.
